10 Movie Villains So Awesome They Ruined Their Franchise

1. Jigsaw - Saw

John Kramer's Jigsaw may have died all the way back during Saw III, but that hasn't prevented him - or actor Tobin Bell - from returning to the franchise for every single movie since. (D)evolving from a twisted and intricately plotted trilogy into a complicated and needlessly convoluted franchise, Saw's insistence on shoehorning Kramer into every film has left it in a tremendously muddled state.

But who can blame them? Jigsaw was an instant hit with fans - his sad life story and horrifying modus operandi propelling the series from low-budget thriller into mega-franchisedom, changing the face of horror cinema for years to come. Even 2017's soft reboot couldn't stray far from the story of John Kramer, regardless of how much it desperately needed to move on and do its own thing.
