10 Movie Villains That Upstaged Other Villains

8. The Minions - Despicable Me

There's an odd dynamic throughout Despicable Me, in that although Gru (Steve Carrell) is the protagonist of the movie, he is also unapologetically a villain. He wants to become the greatest of them all by stealing the Moon, and right there with him are his Minions.

Back in 2010, Despicable Me introduced Gru's little yellow army and they took the world by storm. Everybody loves Carrell's bumbling yet evil bad guy, but his popularity wasn't even in the same league as that of his underlings. They became a worldwide sensation.

Merchandise, games, and even a spin-off movie franchise came for the Minions on the back of their popularity, and though the world may not be quite so in love with them now as it once was, there is no slowing them down. They even managed to overtake their boss as the lead role in their spin-off sequel, Minions: The Rise of Gru.

The aliens may be cute and adorable, unusual traits for villains certainly, but since the dawn of time they have literally had the single purpose of serving the most evil masters they could possibly find.
