10 Movie Villains Who Turned Heroes Evil

9. The Collector

If you couldn't tell, The Collector film series came from the same minds behind the Saw franchise. A faceless killer who constructs terrible traps to torture and kill civilians? I mean, really.

The first film The Collector (2009) sees protagonist Arkin dragged into one of the villain's home invasion traps. The resident family gets killed, except for the youngest daughter whom Arkin is able to save at his own expense.

The Collection (2012) opens with Arkin's escape during another, much larger trap that kills an entire club of party-goers. Prior to this, he'd been trapped in the eponymous "collection" for an undefined but undeniably long time. Since he's the only known person to enter and escape the Collector's lair, he gets enlisted as part of the raid team to bust the place.

The time Arkin spent as part of the collection impacted him in two ways: he experienced a great deal of trauma, but he also learnt a great deal about his captor. So much so in fact, that he had enough information to track down the escaped torturer after the collection's destruction.

By the end of the second film, Arkin's mental strain ruined him, and he turned to his tormentor's tactics. He found the Collector's real identity, invaded his home, and put him in one of his own special red cases. It's unclear what further measures Arkin will take, but he seems fully prepared to do unto the Collector what was done to him.
