10 Movie Villains Who Were Fatally Miscast

1. Morgan Freeman - Wanted

Jessie Eisenberg Lex Luthor Justice League
Universal Pictures

Morgan Freeman has built his storied career on understated and quiet, yet also nuanced and hugely powerful performances and not only is he one of the finest actors of his generation, but he's one of the most well-loved actors in Hollywood. As such, this utterly embarrassing performance was painful to watch for everyone.

In this comic book-adaptation, Freeman plays Sloane, the corrupt leader of a fraternity of assassins. He's an over-the-top comic book movie villain; in other words, totally not Morgan Freeman.

Poor Freeman gives possibly the worst performance of his career, since his normal understated style clashes so badly with the material and every time he tries to ham it up, it just feels incredibly forced and is absolutely cringe-worthy. Easily the worst example is when he's confronting James McAvoy's protagonist and yells "Shoot this motherf**ker!"

Wanted is an entertaining action film that's definitely worth viewing, but this role remains, by far, one of the worst bits of miscasting of recent times.
