10 Movie Villains Who Were Fatally Miscast

2. Paul Giamatti - The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Paul Giamatti is a serious character actor who usually plays supporting parts in drama movies and frequently steals the entire film. He is not a goofy Russian villain who blows things up in an over-the-top rhino suit. Seriously, what were they thinking?

This was probably a role Giamatti took for money, but if he needed to be in this disappointing superhero sequel at all, he should've been cast in a quieter role. For example, he took a similar paycheck role in 2015's San Andreas and played a scientist who provided exposition (he did that rather well too).

Fine, so that would've meant he'd have been completely wasted, but that would've been a lot better than this cringe-worthy villainous role. It's likely this shouty, slapdash and fantastically irritating turn will go down as the worst performance of an otherwise fantastic career.
