10 Movie Villains Who Will Kick Ass In 2018

6. Valak (The Nun)

The Conjuring 2 Nun
Warner Bros.

The Nun is a prequel that will explore the early days of Valak, The Conjuring 2's spooky, demonic villain. Produced by James Wan, the movie is set in 1952 and finds a priest investigating the mysterious death of a nun, and presumably, Valak had something to do with it.

Instantly recognisable and consistently nightmare-inducing, Valak's villainous prowess is evident in the fact that she was not an easy foe to defeat at the end of The Conjuring 2. Paranormal experts Ed and Lorraine Warren did vanquish the demon, but with extreme difficulty and persistence, and Valak nearly killed Ed in the process.

Being a demon and all, Valak can disappear and reappear at a moment's notice, is ruthless in nature, and cannot be defeated via conventional methods. This is a villain that can scare you into submission and stalk you silently without you suspecting a thing, and that's arguably the scariest power a villain can possess.

It's also very impressive that Valak was able to land a solo movie after mere minutes of screentime, something that indicates how effective a villain she was and how much she landed with mainstream audiences.

This evil nun has a chance at ruling 2018 in the same way Pennywise dominated 2017, becoming the next big horror icon that makes a killing at the box-office. Just don't go watch the movie alone.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for over ten years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. In 2022, he took charge of WhoCulture and has grown it into the biggest Doctor Who channel on YouTube, and one of the biggest Doctor Who communities on the web full-stop. He has been writing and video editing since his early teens, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers, off the back of a burning obsession with the Matt Smith era of the show. Like many his age, he first got into Doctor Who with the 2005 revival, but has since gone back and fallen in love with the classic years too. If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order, or to give you a random factoid about the making of Gridlock, Danny is the person to ask!
