10 Movie Villains You Didn't Realise Actually Won

9. Mr. Glass - Unbreakable

Touchstone Pictures

In a fantastic film directed by M. Night Shyamalan before he became box office kryptonite, we are told the story of David Dunn (Bruce Willis) as he comes to realise that he is in possession of super powers. It was a very interesting take on the superhero genre, one that didn't rely on levelling entire city blocks to progress the narrative.

The antagonist of the piece is Elijah Price (Samuel L. Jackson) who suffers from a rare condition which renders his bones extremely brittle. Taking solace in comic books, he begins to theorise that if there are people like him on one end of the spectrum surely there must be polar opposites, someone 'unbreakable'. He sets out to test out his hypothesis in the insane fashion of the villains he idolises by sabotaging public transportation and killing many innocents in the hope of finding his sole survivor.

Eventually discovering Dunn, he prompts the discovery of his special abilities and in essence creates his own arch nemesis. It is here that he finds his victory. For years he has sought out the yin to his yang and in doing so he has fulfilled a life's ambition. While he is institutionalised for his crimes at the end of the film, what super villain story doesn't feature that trope? He'll devise an escape plan and be back to his murderous antics in no time.
