10 Movie Villains You Didn't Realise Actually Won
6. Society - Falling Down
While it may seem more related to the morality of modern life, in Falling Down our society is presented as a terrible, corrupt entity. It's a villain all of its own and as we follow our questionably motivated protagonist as he tries to get to his daughter's birthday party, we see every facet at its worst. William 'D-Fens' Foster, the character we follow has had enough of societal decay and makes it his mission to put right the wrongs he sees in the world.
He's been pushed over the edge by an age he just can't relate to anymore. All things considered it's the ultimate parable of 'life isn't fair.' Although displaying blatant psychopathy through his actions it's hard not to back Foster, who has lost both his job and his family, as he tries to combat societal decline.
The film's exaggeration of criminality and everyday injustice serves to highlight these serious issues and the frustration we've all experienced when we arrive one minute after the end of the breakfast menu. Give us a damn break fast food industry! In the end, society does triumph over Foster. While he may get his point across and go out on his own terms, he hasn't really changed anything. It was a fun ride, but all of the problems he faced have continued and arguably gotten worse with time.
