10 Movie Villains You Wish Got More Screen Time

6. Apocalypse - X-Men: Apocalypse

Whilst the time-bending X-Men: Days of Future Past proved to be a hit with critics and audiences alike, its 2016 sequel ended up leaving a sour taste in most peoples' mouths.

Criticised for its predictability, stale plot and over-indulgence in poor CGI, X-Men: Apocalypse should have been one of the franchise's best installments. Especially since the film was bringing in Apocalypse, an iconic and fan-favourite comic book villain and one of Marvel's strongest adversaries.

Unfortunately, Oscar Isaac's portrayal of the character fell painfully flat throughout his limited and uninteresting screentime. The whole spectacle was made all the more disappointing by Simon Kinberg's script, which somehow managed to be both safe and convoluted at the same time.

In the end, the whole thing was a major let down for regular movie-goers and comic fans alike, who were expecting a more faithful adaptation of one of Marvel's most powerful villains. If Bryan Singer and Simon Kinberg were really interested in making a fun and fresh X-Men adventure, they'd have made its villain much more two-dimensional and given him more time to show audiences what he was made of, but alas all they did was hammer home the fact that the franchise had finally run its course.
