10 Movies About Death That Will Change Your Life
7. Beginners (2010)
The theme of death in movies doesn't always have to be heavy and brutally dramatic to work. Sometimes, it can even be quite bittersweet and funny. Such is the case with Mike Mills' often overlooked rom-com starring Ewan McGregor as a man reflecting on the final days of his father, played by the late Christopher Plummer.
Composed as a series of flashbacks as Oliver pursues a romantic relationship with a waitress called Anna, Beginners tells the inspirational journey of Oliver's elderly father Hal, who came out as gay just before his death and decided to chase the life he always wanted.
Using his father's last days as inspiration for his own life, Oliver attempts to live his own life to the fullest. The entire story is anchored by the astoundingly moving performances of McGregor and an Oscar-winning Plummer, and it brilliantly drives home the idea of living life on your own terms before it's too late.
Beginners will leave you smiling ear-to-ear, whilst pondering the finer things in life. It's like one big hug in movie form, really.
