10 Movies That Almost Had Much Better Endings

9. Harry's Pre-Victory Speech - Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 2

Warner Bros. Pictures

The Official Ending: The entire Harry Potter series comes to a close in spectacular fashion, with the splitting of the last book in two meaning the final movie is essentially one massive action sequence. Deaths, twists and tears come gushing out, with the whole thing climaxing with the epic confrontation between Voldemort and the boy who lived. The pair skirmish around the school, before one final round in the dilapidated courtyard, where Harry manages to inexplicably disintegrate the Dark Lord. Afterwards he explains that it was because he owned the Elder Wand, or something.

The One We Almost Got: In J.K. Rowling's novel, there's the same broad strokes of the battle, but the execution is much grander. The fight is in the Great Hall, with everyone watching it unfold, while Tom Riddle's body doesn't disappear (not a big change, it's just really dumb). But, biggest of all, the explanation of why Harry can't lose (he is the official owner of Voldemort's wand) is central, explicitly stated in a great speech before the fight, showing the end of his journey to become a hero and adult.

Why It Would Have Been Better: The book ending brings together the plot action and overall coming-of-age themes to present something that perfectly rounds off the character. The film has an elaborate light show.
