What started off as a couple of short films has ultimately evolved into one of the surprise packages in the world of horror over the last few years. Following on from the unmitigated successes of both Terrifier and Terrifier 2, Terrifier 3 was released in 2024.

To no one's surprise, the threequel upped the ante when it came to the blood and guts that made the franchise so popular. Director Damien Leone was reported to have claimed that no major studios would have made this movie based on the first five pages of the script, something that was backed up by the film's UK premiere.

The opening scenes, in which Art the Clown (David Howard Thornton) massacres a family at Christmas time while dressed as Santa Claus, lead to nine members of the audience walking out. There was also reportedly someone who physically vomited, and another who walked out while Art was impersonating a mall Santa.

To stand out in the ever-saturated horror genre is getting tougher and tougher to achieve, but the Terrifier franchise has taken ultra-violence to a whole new level and turned it into a USP.
