10 Movies Based On A True Story You Need To Watch Before You Die
5. Zero Dark Thirty
It was one of the biggest manhunts in history. Zero Dark Thirty dramatises the almost decade-long international search for Osama bin Laden, leader of the terrorist group Al-Qaeda who were responsible for the September 11 attacks.
The film follows CIA analyst Maya and her team as she uses whatever means at her disposal to hunt down any and all leads that could help them track down bin Laden. As the film progresses, we see Maya becoming a key figure in the hunt, as she is able to decipher patterns of behaviour in the way Al-Qaeda operate and how they cover their tracks.
During their search, we are also shown the multiple ways the CIA obtain their information. Bribes, informants and torture are all used in the hunt for bin Laden, despite claims from authorities at the time that such methods were not used.
The film builds up to its intense climax, as SEAL teams are sent on their mission to gain entry to a compound believed to be harbouring bin Laden and bring him back dead or alive.
Knowing how this story ends is not the reason you need to watch Zero Dark Thirty. It’s learning how it reached its ending and everything that needed to be done in order to find one man.
