10 Movies You Can't Stop Watching When They Come On TV
6. Anchorman: The Legend Of Ron Burgundy
Comedies are much easier to dip into than more serious fare; their success tends to rely on one-liners and small vignettes, rather than an overarching plot you have to, gasp, pay attention to. A perfect example of this is Anchorman. Much of the film was heavily improvised around a basic plot skeleton, meaning the whole story (which basically amounts to "look, there was sexism in the seventies") is really just an excuse for Will Ferrell and co. to play caricatures and say insta-quotes. Which is kinda where The Legend Continues, last year's belated sequel, failed, putting a little too much emphasis on the satire element. The improvisation means there's very few subtle running gags; instead most jokes work in isolation. All that has helped make Anchorman the phenomenon it is - how else could it be that quotable - and makes it a ride easy to join at any point. The movie has become a go-to group watch, with being distracted from the film not ruining its overall effect Point of no return: The News Team fight. After the intense, bi-lingual bloodfest the film doesn't let up.
