10 Movies Doomed From The Start

9. Winnie The Pooh (2011)

The death of 2D animation in theaters can be traced back to two fumbles on Disney's part. In 2009, there was Princess and the Frog, which committed by far the worst instance of betting against James Cameron - releasing just a week out from a little film ya might've heard of called AVATAR. Fortunately, Princess and the Frog held its own enough that Disney does consider the film a success, even immortalizing it in the parks, replacing Splash Mountain

But then there was the second fumble. The sad, sad case of Winnie The Pooh 2011.

While betting against James Cameron has been considered a bad idea in Hollywood for decades, no one saw Avatar coming, and Princess and the Frog did make back a good bit of its money. Winnie The Pooh, meanwhile, released on the exact same day as the final Harry Potter movie. Needless to say, nobody was going to see Winnie The Pooh that weekend. Or the week after. Or the week after that. (You get the idea.)

Everyone keeping an eye on that release knew how it was going to end, and the fears were proven correct.
