10 Movies Doomed From The Start

As was said at the very top, movies fail for countless reasons, but if you were to dig down into all of them to find the roots connecting them, quite a few would have one element in common: advertising. Whether bad or non-existent, lackluster advertising can kill your film in its crib. And Strange World falls smack dab in the latter category.

Until the week of release, you couldn't find so much as a banner ad for this movie, let alone the trailer. The reason nobody went to see Strange World is that no one knew that there was even a movie to see. And when the advertising did come out, it lacked any of the marketable elements that usually spell box office gold for the House of Mouse.

They barely even advertised the adorable fluffy dog. Why the hell would you not tell as many people as you possibly can that your film has an adorable fluffy dog?

This is compounded by the curse that has followed Disney for decades - that, for some reason, they cannot get audiences to care about their sci-fi films. Treasure Planet is leagues better than Strange World and is by far the more infamous flop. And that was perhaps the final nail in the coffin, the word of mouth failed to carry it after release. Strange World is just kind of mediocre, but it still didn't deserve to be hung out to dry like it was.
