10 Movies Everyone Attributes To The Wrong Director

10. Poltergeist - Steven Spielberg

Poltergeist is one of the most iconic horror films ever made, and happened to be released right during Steven Spielberg's creative peak, which might be why so many people believe that he actually directed the movie. In actual fact, Spielberg was the film's producer and co-writer, while it was directed by Tobe Hooper (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre). Looking at the movie, it's easy to see why so many think Spielberg directed it: the narrative revolves around a close family unit thrown into peril, and the robust style of the movie reflects his own perfectly. There has been much doubt over the years as to how much creative input Hooper really had, with many members of the cast and crew asserting that Spielberg did, in fact, have a pivotal role in preparing storyboards and adjusting Hooper's shots. Some even claim that Spielberg directed much of the picture himself, though the credit remains with Hooper, and Spielberg himself has never tried to deny Hooper's credit, while acknowledging that their creative process was unconventional.
