10 Movies Everyone Attributes To The Wrong Director
6. Devil - M. Night Shyamalan
2010's Devil was a mildly entertaining, absurd little thriller that nevertheless ended up being a considerable commercial success, making $63 million against a $10 million budget. How was this achieved? Through some devious marketing, that's how: the trailers and posters all made clear reference to M. Night Shyamalan's involvement (even though he just came up with the story and produced it), implying to the casual cinemagoer that he directed it. Even though Shyamalan's star had faded considerably by 2010 with a slew of terrible movies, his name still meant something thanks to his work on The Sixth Sense and Signs, and this was enough to get butts in seats, all while the actual director, John Erick Dowdle, was pushed to the wayside. On the plus side, Dowdle appears to have done well off the back of Devil's success, with his next horror flick, As Above, So Below, garnering considerable buzz already.
