10 Movies Everyone Attributes To The Wrong Director

7. Star Wars Episodes V & VI - George Lucas

George Lucas catches all the flak for his work on the Star Wars prequel trilogy, but to be fair, he also receives far more acclaim than he probably should for the original trilogy. He may have written and directed the original movie, but despite the popular belief that Lucas has helmed all 6 movies, he did not direct Episode V or Episode VI. The best entry in the series to date, Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, was directed by Lucas' former professor Irvin Kershner, while Lucas took on various other production roles. Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, meanwhile, was helmed by Richard Marquand (after Lucas considered both David Lynch and David Cronenberg), though it is widely accepted that Lucas had a frequent presence on set and helped Marquand execute the movie's effects-driven sequences, to the point that some believe him worthy of a co-director credit. Lucas may have had the ideas, but in Episodes V and VI, he also had other directors and the sublime screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan to help him out, which is precisely what he was lacking on the prequel trilogy: a voice to tell him no.
