9. Me And Orson Welles
Me And Orson Welles arrived with critical backing and a performance of the titular character that bagged its performer a nomination for pretty much every award besides the Oscars and the Golden Globes. Now call me a conspiracy theorist, but I think the reason Christian McKay didn't get a chance to play with the big boys for his spot on performance as Orson Welles was because the film hadn't worked as well with audiences as predicted and thus his draw to the ceremony was minimal. But how had a film with an accomplished director that tackled such a venerable figure failed? The answer is simple; Zac Efron. The internet may have made general movie consumption and discussing our likes and dislikes so much easier, but it has also allowed for certain stars to be despised en masse; I remain adamant that Twilight would never have been as big, Twihards never as devoted, if there wasn't a strong, constant stream of ridicule. Zac Efron gave a great performance in a thankless role (even as a character Welles overshadowed everyone else), but many people went in to immediately hate him and by proxy the film.
