3. Mean Girls (2024)
Was anyone really desperate to see a remake of one of the most adored teen comedies of all time?
The idea of Lindsey Lohan and co. returning alongside the likes of Rachel McAdams and co. would have likely been a compelling concept a few years on from that 2004 hit. But 20 years later, lovers of "fetch" and wearing pink on a Wednesday were less than impressed by the first look at the new Mean Girls.
So, this one seemed to be fighting an uphill battle from the start.
Despite looking every bit like a remake/reboot of that original movie in the trailers, though, the Tina Fey-written picture was actually based on the Broadway musical that was inspired by that first film. Put simply, a lot of viewers were in for quite the shock.
Paramount Pictures' deceptive marketing worked a treat as people were certainly curious enough to head into theatres after watching these not exactly song-and-dance-boasting teasers. And though some were left a bit disappointed and confused when the likes of Cady Heron and Regina George burst out into a tune here, the fact the movie eventually earned a strong $100 million worldwide (on a $36 million budget) shows that there were clearly a great many folks out there who still wanted to see what all the fuss was about.
