4. Blade
Though it's X-Men that always gets the credit for kick-starting the glut of comic book movies that have flooded our cinemas in recent years, the trend actually began with Blade, a gory, thrilling, funny, thoroughly entertaining vampire flick that helped (temporarily) reignite the fading star of Wesley Snipes, even if its third instalment was without question a crushing disappointment. Despite being helmed by The Dark Knight scribe David S. Goyer, the narrative left a lot to be desired, instead seeming more keen to indulge its iPod product placement, ridiculous cameos (Triple H, really?) and head-smackingly bad sense of humour. Oh, and it had a PG-13 rating, which for a franchise about an ill-tempered half-breed hunting vampires is never a good thing. Given that Snipes is currently serving the last quarter of his prison sentence for tax evasion, that gets him out of the running for any sequel plans, so why not just reboot it? Idris Elba would make a fantastic substitute - and what's more, he's a better actor than Snipes ever has been - and bring back the original film's director, Stephen Norrington, to give it the same R-rated, fun edge the first film had. Given the iconic stature of the character, this one shouldn't be a pain to reboot; don't try and tell the same origin story, but just fly out of the gate with Elba kicking ass.
