10 Movies Franchises That Went From 5 Stars To 1 Star

1. Alien/Predator

5 Star: Alien; Aliens; Predator 1 Star: Alien Vs. Predator; Aliens Vs. Predator: Requiem We'll hit two sci-fi franchises with one stone here as the one star entries are the same for both. Alien and Predator are two of the best sci-fi films ever made, both serving as the zenith of a genre mashup (horror and action respectively). Immaculately thought-out by directors at the top of their game, they both spawned large, adult-oriented franchises with a mixture of good sequels (Aliens, Predators) and, well, less good (Predator 2, Alien 3, Alien: Resurrection). They were first brought together in 1989 when the Alien Versus Predator comic book premiered. This connection was canonised in Predator 2, where a xenomorph skull appears in the creature's lair. The crossover franchise continued to grow and once their parent series had dried up the decision was made to transfer it to the big screen. With, of course, a family-friendly PG-13 rating because that's what this film needs. AVP often gets looked on more favourably, but mainly because AVPR is just so inept. Make no mistake; they're both awful. Neither understands anything about horror, chucking in a few basic tropes and featuring overly gracious shots of its monster to ensure you can sit through them without having a single racing pulse. Managing to negate the entirety of Alien's mythology, both franchises have since pretended these don't exist; Predators went to pains to not namecheck the events, while Prometheus overwrote AVP's Weyland. What's most depressing is that we looked set to get a fifth Alien that would see Scott and Cameron team up before the Predators got involved. Oh the injustice. Which other franchise went from five stars to one star? What do you make of our picks? Let us know in the comments below.
