10 Movies Franchises That Went From 5 Stars To 1 Star
4. Superman
5 Star: Superman: The Movie 1 Star: Superman IV: The Quest For Peace We weren't too enamoured with Man Of Steel. However, even though we found Zack Snyder's reboot a rather monotonous affair, we have to admit he got some things right and that it's a long way off being the franchise's worst film. That honour goes to Superman IV: The Quest For Peace, a cheap continuation of the Christopher Reeve series highjacked by a heavy handed anti-nuclear message. And it all started so well. Richard Donner's Superman: The Movie was the first proper, big budget superhero adaptation and set a high bar for all entires in the genre that followed. The effects were great for the time - you may not quite believe a man could fly, but you were pretty convinced - the music instantly iconic and the acting, something that you'd expect to take a backseat, was well done; it pays to get Brando in your film. Donner was booted off the sequel mid-way through (despite having shot most of it during the first film's production) and things only got worse from there. Producers the Salkind's wanted a lighter tone for the third film, which was delivered in the camp Superman III. But when the film bombed they sold the rights to the character to renowned cheapo factory Canon Films. Making the film for a fraction of the original's budget, A Quest For Peace would have been destined for bargain bin ignominy if it hadn't been attached to a once lofty franchise.
