10 Movies Franchises That Went From 5 Stars To 1 Star
5. The Planet Of The Apes
5 Star: The Planet Of The Apes 1 Star: Battle For The Planet Of The Apes; The Planet Of The Apes (2001) Tim Burton's reboot of The Planet Of The Apes sucked. The first sign to many the director was totally unable to stray out of his gothic hovel, it's commendable make-up was offset by an intense desire to differentiate itself from the original film to a fault. Now that's said we can focus on the really interesting thing; the original run of films. Although most people's knowledge of The Planet Of The Apes ends with the first film's final shot of the Statue of Liberty shattering Charlton Heston's calculated cynicism, the series continued for four more movies. Beneath The... introduced psychic mutants, a by-product of the nuclear war that had led to the ape's rise, and ended with the destruction of the Earth. Escape From The... had a trio of future apes travel back in time to the then-modern day, with humans less than welcoming. Conquest Of The... saw the son of those apes lead a revolution against an oppressive humanity (Rise Of The... is a semi-remake of this). And finally beneath saw a final confrontation between ape and man (and mutants), with Caesar attempting to broach a peace between the two. The films decreased in quality a star each time, with the ape make-up getting gradually worse and the stories increasingly contrived; Conquest sees humans trying to domesticate apes because cats and dogs have been wiped out. Battle is a confused and disconnected end to the original run. Dawn Of The... did it much better.
