10 Movies From 2012 That Didn't Get Enough Respect

4. Room 237

85room 237 So what is The Shining actually about? Seems like a simple question doesn't it? It's about a haunted hotel and/or a writer who goes mad after a case of writers block. Think again. The Shining is about the murder and pillaging of native Americans, oh wait, the Shining is about The holocaust...actually, I've got it: The Shining is Stanley Kubrick's confession that he was the one who filmed the fake Moon landing in 1969. That sums up Room 237 This is the only documentary on my list. For the record I love documentaries and they often go undervalued for years after release. Room 237 might be the best documentary I saw from 2012 (sorry Sugar Man). Many people are aware that Stanley Kubrick, celebrated as one of the best directors of all time, was a perfectionist. Nothing get's into a frame in his film that isn't intentional. The people interviewed in this documentary have seen the Shining no less than a few hundred times. Like I mentioned in my introduction, The Shining was not warmly received on release, however it left a lasting impression on many people who saw it, and for some it became on obsession. This is a documentary not about a movie, this is a documentary about the nature of obsession, and people's search for meaning. You will laugh at some of the theories the subjects present, but this film is never boring. Seek it out! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=khPPlvMnaV0
