10 Movies From 2012 That Didn't Get Enough Respect

3. Compliance

Compliance Compliance is great, compliance is twisted, compliance is written by a perverted mind. Those were my thoughts as I watched this gripping film. Then I found out this was a based on a true story. My mind was a little blown. I'm always skeptical of these 'based on a true story' movies. Generally they take lots of liberties, and add much more dramatic overtones to the truth. The more I read, the more I realized Compliance sticks to the truth quite rigidly, with only a few changes. I won't dive to deep into plot but here's the synopsis: When a policeman's phone call convinces a fast food restaurant manager to interrogate a young employee, the events spiral out of control quickly. I won't give away any more. Ann Dowd, who plays the store manager deserved a lot of acclaim for this performance. Dreama Walker is great, considering all I had seen her in before was that 'apartment 23' show. Given it's budget it's confined to (basically) 1 location, all the action takes place inside a fast food restaurant. Like Berberian Sound Studio, it uses that to it's advantage, locking us into the uncomfortable nature of the story. I'd rather speak less about this movie, since it's much better to go into it with no knowledge (as is the case with all movies). It's really under-seen, and really fantastic. I can't recommend it enough. I'm not attaching a trailer, since they all give too much plot away for this one
