10 Movies From 2017 That Really Shouldn’t Have Been Boring

7. Suburbicon

Suburbicon was one of 2017's most anticipated films and a sure Oscar hopeful...until people actually saw it and realised it was another misjudged dud from director George Clooney.

Though this darkly comic crime caper, originally conceived by the Coen brothers, had plenty of potential to be a riotously funny satire of post-war suburbia, it never really hits a confident stride and feels oddly muddled throughout.

Matt Damon tries his hardest to make sense of it all, but aside from a brief sequence featuring Oscar Isaac, both the humour and the more serious elements fall pretty flat. Things pick up somewhat in act three, but by that point you've no doubt been worn down by more than an hour of weirdly unfunny, uninteresting sub-Coen dialogue.

In better hands this could've been a Best Picture nominee, but instead it's destined to be pretty much forgotten before 2018 even rolls around.
