Everyone knew the Incredibles 2 would be a hit with 14 years of pent-up demand since the original, but no one would have thought it could make $608,000,000. It opened to an animated record $182,000,000 and didn't let up. It kept up its amazing run throughout the entire summer. For perspective, its opening weekend was larger than the $179,000,000 opening weekend of Captain America: Civil War. Fueled by youngsters and millennials alike, it appealed to all ages and made almost twice as much as the original.

While not everyone felt it was better in terms of quality, it was a must-see event on the scale of most live-action superhero films. The PG film was within 100 million domestically of the massive PG-13 Infinity War, yet most people subconsciously assumed it couldn't make as much money as a "regular" film. It beat the odds of subpar sequels and helped pave the way for 2018 to be the biggest year domestically for movies ever.
