10 Movies From The 2000s That Made More Money Than You Thought

4. The Passion Of The Christ

Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen

Much to Deadpool's chagrin, Passion of the Christ is the highest grossing R-rated film (not adjusted for inflation). When adjusted, it raked in $537,000,000, still a whopping amount from a highly controversial film. It simply plays through the final hours of the life of Christ like many films before it.

When it released, it was huge; not huge in a blockbuster sense, but in a reverential, powerful sense. People watched it not for entertainment, but out of respect. While many films have tried to recreate the success by pampering to Christian audiences, the Passion of the Christ did what none of those other films did: it told an accurate, powerful story with good production quality.

Most people know it was a success, but not many understand just how huge this movie was.
