9. The Last Action Hero
Audiences were not kind to film spoofs that were not Mel Brooks associated, and Shane Black and John McTiernan's
The Last Action Hero was no exception. However, it's still an incredibly enjoyable watch, with special effects that have held up quite well, and a premise just silly enough to be done over and explored more coherently. It was a movie a bit ahead of its time (we're
still making the movies it takes its jabs at), and in an era where homage films like
The Expendables makes buckets at the box office, and we see action movie stars as punchlines (
Liam Neeson), this could be the perfect time for
The Last Action Hero to make a comeback. So, who should take over? It'd be sort of neat to see father/son duo
Will and Jaden Smith in this kind of movie, but I wouldn't be opposed to
Jason Statham and
Joel Courtney(
Super 8).
