10 Movies That Gave Rise To Bizarrely Specific Fears

10. Homicidal Truck Drivers Trying To Drive Us Off the Road - Duel

It's actually really frightening when you think about exactly how much trust we put in other people as soon as we get behind the wheel of a car. We're trusting that they know how to operate a motor vehicle, that they're not drunk, that they're wearing their glasses, that they see the bicyclist about to brazenly cut across their lane. Is there any other situation in which we put that much faith in the human race? But even though we have good reason to be wary, people aren't exactly thinking that their fellow drivers are maniacs, not satisfied until they drive us off the road. Well, most people. The rest of us have seen Duel, and we've not only thought about it, we've prepared for it. Duel was Steven Spielberg's first film, and it revolved around a man in his car being frantically pursued by a murderous truck driver with a serious case of road rage. What begins as an innocent passing on the right develops into a high octane car chase that will not end until the truck driver or our hero is dead. Thanks for those nightmares, Spielberg.
