10 Movies Interrupted By Horrific Violence In The Cinema

7. Shutter Island

Like Black Swan, Martin Scorsese's Shutter Island is also a psychological thriller in which the protagonist's sanity comes increasingly into question as the film progresses - perhaps there is something to be said for certain types of movies attracting a certain, sometimes unstable, audience. The violent incident that interrupted a screening of Shutter Island was triggered by something every bit as trivial - and commonplace - as a dispute about eating loud popcorn, except this time around it was the person doing the complaining who ended up as the victim. An unnamed young man, tiring of the woman in front constantly talking on her cellphone, asked her to turn it down. When she left with her two male companions he presumably assumed that was the end of the matter. A few moments later, however, the two men returned and stabbed the man in the neck with a meat thermometer. Accurately described by sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitemore as "a cowardly attack," the man fortunately survived, although he was hospitalized with serious injuries.
