10 Movies It's OK For Men To Cry At

7. Brian's Song

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OfI_HT39eeM There are films like the above that men can cry at because they tap into something we experienced as a child, and then there are films that men can cry at because the film is manly yet emotive, often referred to as a "guy-cry" film. Here's one film that will go over with a lot of older men, and it probably helps if you're American or at least watch American Football. Nevertheless, it's an affecting tale that does a huge service to TV films, dealing with the life of University American football player Brian Piccolo (James Caan), who is stricken with terminal cancer after turning pro, and the resulting friendship with fellow player Gale Sayers (Billy Dee Williams). Here's a film that, in spite of its straight-to-TV development, manages to avoid overt sentiment, and is on the whole incredibly restrained, getting two fantastic performances out of Caan and Williams as a result. The best scene comes when Sayers is given the George S. Halas Most Courageous Player Award, and gives a moving speech - viewable above - in which Sayers commends his ailed team-mate. The story ends with Piccolo dying with his wife at his bed-side, and we get a flashback of the two friends running through the park, which is pretty much where most men who haven't already lost it will just explode with tears.
