2. Ryan Reynolds Couldn't Improvise On Set - Deadpool 3

At the time of press the third Deadpool 3 is just a few weeks into production, yet despite the script being finished before the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike began, the strike nevertheless resulted in a most unexpected complication for the sequel's shoot.

The Deadpool films are of course known for star Ryan Reynolds providing improv and riffing freely on set, but because he's a credited writer on Deadpool 3 - as he was on the previous film - he will be unable to improv during filming, as this will technically count as writing.

On-set improv while the strike is ongoing would cause Reynolds to fall foul of the WGA's rules and risk a fine, legal action, or expulsion from the union altogether - something no self-respecting member of the guild would ever dare risk.

As such it'll certainly result in a strange shooting experience for Reynolds, who will be forced to stick strictly to the script while the strike is ongoing.

However, as Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld pointed out himself, it's a major blessing that Reynolds' titular superhero wears a mask.

This means that director Shawn Levy can simply film clean shots of the mouth moving underneath the Deadpool mask and then have Reynolds record improvised dialogue later on once the strike is over.

While the WGA restrictions will undeniably strip some of the electric spontaneity away during principal photography, there's no reason to believe it spells disaster for the end product.
