10 Movies Made Under INSANE Conditions
1. Props Were Sold After Scenes Were Shot To Fund The Rest Of Filming - Shallow Grave
Danny Boyle's feature directorial debut Shallow Grave is a terrifically tense thriller starring Ewan McGregor, Christopher Eccleston, and Kerry Fox, and certainly taught Boyle a thing or two about how to be economical on a low-budget film shoot.
Shallow Grave was budgeted at just $2.5 million, and even with most of the movie being set in the trio's flat, that meant that production margins were extremely tight - to the point that Boyle had to get creatively thrifty in the middle of shooting.
As it turned out, the budget didn't quite cover all of the film stock needed to complete principal photography, and so throughout the 30-day shoot, the crew resorted to auctioning off props featured in the movie in order to generate additional funds.
After all, in our digital present it's incredibly easy to forget just how expensive film stock is, but all the same, it's maddening that Boyle and co. had to resort to this - especially as Shallow Grave ended up grossing almost eight-times its budget at the box office.
