10 Movies Nobody Wanted But Ended Up Loving

8. Kung Fu Panda

Kung Fu Panda is a movie whose name alone invited its fair share of raised eyebrows - if not outright eyerolls - back in 2008.

The film, starring Jack Black as kung fu-fighting panda Po, seemingly had all the makings of your typical DreamWorks animation not called Shrek, primed to talk down to its young target audience while Black makes relentless fat jokes for the bulk of the runtime.

And yet, Kung Fu Panda was a hugely pleasant surprise - an unexpectedly heartfelt and charming film bolstered by gorgeous animation and a superb ensemble voice cast, also including Dustin Hoffman, Angelina Jolie, Ian McShane, Seth Rogen, Lucy Liu, David Cross, James Hong, and Jackie Chan.

Though its title and underwhelming marketing suggested a lowest common denominator animation, Kung Fu Panda was a monstrous success both critically and commercially, leading to two similarly hailed sequels.

As totally daft and low-effort as this appeared at first glance, it's ultimate proof that execution is really all that matters.
