10 Movies Nobody Wanted But Ended Up Loving

Nobody in their right mind was deeply craving a movie in which Daniel Radcliffe plays a farting corpse who becomes a source of hope for a man (Paul Dano) stranded on an island, but here we are.

Swiss Army Man is absolutely one of those movies nobody wanted, or rather, they didn't know they wanted.

On paper it sounds like the sort of childish, inane nonsense you'd expect to see in one of Adam Sandler's low-brow Netflix comedies, but courtesy of debuting filmmakers Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan - whose follow-up collaboration was the brilliant recent Everything Everywhere All at Once - it's a genuinely tantalising and affecting piece of work.

Far from another buzzy, overhyped Sundance title, Swiss Army Man proved to be a terrifically acted and unexpectedly affecting dramedy, again confirming Daniel Radcliffe's refusal to coast on his laurels in his post-Harry Potter career.

It certainly wasn't for everyone, but is so, so much more than the self-consciously quirky, attention-seeking festival indie it first appeared to be.
