10 Movies Released At The Wrong Time
8. Glitter
Glitter likely would have bombed whenever it came out, seeing as it’s a truly terrible movie. Not just bad, but eye-wateringly garbage. It’s actually level with the 4th lowest rated movie in IMDb’s history, sharing a 2.2 out of 10 with Paris Hilton’s The Hottie & The Nottie.
According to Mariah Carey though, there’s a very specific reason why the movie flopped, and it’s nothing to do with its quality.
The film’s soundtrack had an infamous release date: September 11th, 2001. Not only that, but a bright and peppy billboard of Mariah with the title Glitter splashed all over it was in one of the much publicised pictures of the Twin Towers burning. The movie itself came out a week later.
It’s a little strange for Carey to deflect from Glitter’s terrible numbers by making an excuse out of 9/11, given that, again, the movie is truly awful. It made less than a quarter of its budget back, so if you’re feeling generous you can perhaps understand why she’d look at outside factors.
To Carey’s credit, she finally got to showcase the extent of her acting ability in 2009’s Precious. Still seems like Glitter was just plain old bad though.
