10 Movies Ruined By Fan Overhype

2. Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness

Few are going to rank Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness among their favourite MCU movies, but it's a totally fine film that's far from the trash-fire it's been touted as in some circles of the fandom.

The problem, inevitably, is that the movie was hyped up to be a bold, daring riff on the MCU's ever-widening multiverse.

And so, fans expected insane cameos and fan service moments left and right, buying into all the pre-release rumours about Tom Cruise playing a variant of Iron Man, Hugh Jackman reprising his role as Wolverine, and Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) even showing up in one of the universes.

But Multiverse of Madness was, for all of its unhinged moments, a fairly modest take on the multiverse, with most of the action transpiring in just a few universes.

Furthermore, the fan service was mostly spent on the single mid-film Illuminati sequence, which while entertaining left some fans feeling underwhelmed due to the lack of more jaw-dropping cameos.

Following on from one of the most commercially successful and crowd-pleasing MCU movies to date, Spider-Man: No Way Home, certainly did this film no favours at all, as fans got whipped up into a frenzy considering the many multiversal possibilities that ultimately didn't come to fruition.

Again, on its own merits it's an acceptable MCU offering, yet if you listen to the loudest, most zealous MCU fans it's a literal crime against humanity.
