10 Movies Ruined By Studio Interference

5. Kingdom of Heaven

Ridley Scott's original edit of Kingdom of Heaven was over three hours long, but Fox being Fox, they simply could not abide that. Various plot strands disappeared completely and characters were excised, most notably King Baldwin V, who appears only in Scott's director's cut. Fox chose to omit almost all pronounced character development to get the runtime down, and the result is a film that was met largely with critical derision. Scott's own cut, eventually released on DVD, was however received far more positively, causing numerous critics to re-evaluate the film in a different light. Still, it is Fox who is tarnishing Ridley Scott's reputation as a filmmaker to the casual viewer, all for the sake of trying to get some more butts in seats, which their meddling didn't do anyway, as the film made little more than its production costs.
