10 Movies Smarter Than Anyone Wants To Admit

6. Megamind

Dreamworks

Dreamworks are one of the undisputed masters of animation working right now, not only making entertaining products, but ones possessing genuine heart and intelligence all at the same time.

But not every Dreamworks movie gets the recognition it deserves. Such was the unfortunate case of Megamind, released around the same time as illumination's Despicable Me, and thus being seen as the ripoff of the two for some reason.

Which is a definite shame, because this has got to be one of the strongest Dreamworks films thematically speaking, that the company has ever put out. The film delves into ideas of nature vs. nurture in a way that kids can very easily understand. Using the framing device of suprheroes and supervillains, who in the case of this movie have very similar backstories but very different upbringings, to get across the idea that your upbringing only defines what you allow it to define about yourself.

With an excellent cast of celebrities who actually disappear into their roles shockingly well (Jonah Hill in particular is almost unrecognizable), humor that will leave you in stitches, and brilliant characterization, this is one superhero parody that managed to be its own brand of super.
