10 Movies So Awful They Were Pulled From Theatres

The $40 million animated fantasy adventure movie Delgo was in production for six years before its December 2008 release. It was in production so long that two of its stars, Anne Bancroft and John Vernon, died three years before the film came out.

The voice cast also includes a number of popular actors, including Freddie Prinze Jr., Jennifer Love Hewitt, Val Kilmer, Malcolm McDowell, Eric Idle, and Michael Clarke Duncan. Before its release Delgo appeared at a number of film festivals in an attempt to build buzz for an unknown property.

It didn't work. Delgo debuted during the usually crowded holiday season in 2160 U.S. theatres and grossed a pathetic $694,782 in its opening weekend. Indie distributor Freestyle Releasing immediately recalled the film and it was pulled from every theatre after just one week. Plans to release the movie in theatres overseas were cancelled, and at the time of its release Delgo had the "honour" of having the worst opening weekend ever of any film released in 2000-plus U.S. theatres.
