10 Movies So Bad Their Directors Disowned Them

2. Hellraiser IV: Bloodline (Kevin Yagher)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yLfpZMAJW3k Hardly one of the more well-known entries on the list, it's still a test case for a director getting completely screwed over once they've signed on for a film. Furthermore, the film's failure meant that it was the last Hellraiser film to be released in cinemas, and Clive Barker severed involvement with any subsequent sequels. Director Kevin Yagher started out in Hollywood as a make-up artist, and following his difficult working conditions on Hellraiser IV, decided to return to that field; given what happened, I can't blame him. Yagher had ambitious ideas for the film, which would focus more on atmosphere than the arbitrary appearance of Pinhead, but the studio didn't like this direction, and Yagher ended up leaving the film mid-production. Joe Chappelle picked up the slack uncredited, and to prevent the credit deferring to himself, Yagher opted to take the safety net of the Alan Smithee credit. In the end, it was at the series' expense, because Hellraiser has never recovered from its straight-to-video relegation.
