10 Movies So Crazy Over The Top They Were Hilarious
7. Shoot Em' Up
Now a beloved cult classic, writer/director Michael Davis initially pitched Shoot 'Em Up to the studio executives as 'John Woo's wet dream'. While it doesn't hit that slightly-questionable mark, it comes mighty close.
Clocking in at a brisk 84 minutes, the movie manages to live up to its title and then some in the first five. An action movie without any explosions, Shoot 'Em Up instead focuses entirely on gunplay; there's a shootout while a woman is in labor, one during a sex scene, one in mid-air and countless others, leading to a body count that runs into the hundreds.
Then when you factor in a lactating prostitute, a mother getting spanked in retaliation for punishing her child, several deaths by carrot and a finale involving live rounds being fired from in between the hero's broken and mangled fingers, you can understand why Davis spent so long trying to get this thing greenlit by the studio.
Is it a sly satire on the action genre or just a trashy B-movie? Do we even care? What is for sure, is that it remains one of the most enjoyable preposterous genre movies of the last decade.
