5. Power Of The Dark Crystal

Jim Henson's epic masterpiece "The Dark Crystal" is definitely one of the greatest movies of all time. It had everything; an incredible storyline, great characters, cool effects, incredible music and an awesome environment. It was a near perfect film. Critically acclaimed, and a being a success at the box office, it won a Saturn Award for Best Fantasy Film, won the Grand Prize at the Avoriaz Film Festival, and it was nominated for the Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation, as well as a BAFTA for Best Special Visual Effects. It was definitely a great film. And in 2005, the Jim Henson Company bought a script written by the original writer of the first movie David Odell, hired Genndy Tartakovski, and even had the designer of the original film returning for this one. The plot would be set thousands of years after the original film, and it would involve a girl made of fire who steals a shard of the Dark Crystal in order to reignite a dying sun that exists at the center of the planet. With something like that, you would think we would have seen the film by now, right?
So, what happened? I honestly don't know. The movie was going through a very slow pre-production process, since they felt great pressure from fans (though to be fair, knowing how audiences are nowadays, even if they make the greatest movie ever made they would hate it just because), they rewrote the script a couple of times. Not only that, they originally wanted to make the film CGI, but they decided to go both ways, using puppets that would be enhanced using CGI. They partnered with numerous companies for a long time with the hope of making the film soon. However in 2011, Cheryl Henson said that the film has been put on hold until further notice, and a year later it was confirmed that the project has been cancelled. Probably one of the biggest disappointments ever.
