10 Movies That Are Still Great After Twenty Viewings

No science-fiction movie in cinematic history has inspired repeat viewing as much as Ridley Scott's masterpiece, Blade Runner, and that makes a lot of sense - it is, without question, utterly deserving of multiple viewings, and holds more in its runtime of 120 minutes than any film of five or six or seven hours might. Scott, of course, was lambasted on the set of the movie (a nightmare production it was) by both his crew and his stars, but he set out to achieve a particular vision and he succeeded in doing just that.

Scott's legendary perfectionism made Blade Runner a keeper: the detail is immense, as almost every object contained within the movie's frames was made specifically for the film itself. Which means that the rain-soaked, slum-like dystopian future of Blade Runner feels "real" - repeat viewings of the movie are akin to repeat "vacations" into Scott's world, which hums with personality through grit and neon. Blade Runner also happens to embrace an intense and complicated plot that cannot be addressed in a single viewing - you slowly learn to absorb the film over the span of time, and indeed most fans of the movie will never stop watching it, year after year, because it really is as dense as its reputation will have you believe.

It is a timeless entity to be pondered, poured over, digested... on repeat. Throw in Vangelis' haunting, synth-driven score, Rutger Hauer's amazing performance, the fact that there are are a seemingly endless number of versions and "cuts" of the movie, and its legendary production process, and it's no wonder that Blade Runner continues to enthral after twenty viewings. Hell, it still probably would after fifty viewings - or a hundred.
