10 Movies That Are Still Great After Twenty Viewings

In this introduction to this article, movies exhibiting a strange, drawing power were mentioned. Where Labyrinth is concerned, there is no better word than "strange." After all, this is a really, really odd movie. When you take the time to actually ponder a) its existence and b) how it came to actually exist, your brain begins to ask questions you probably don't want to know the answers to.

It is, for all intents and purposes, a puppet movie starring David Bowie as a "Goblin King," who steals a baby as a bargaining tool in an attempt to hold ultimate power over a teenage girl played by Jennifer Connelly. Oh, and there are musical numbers. It's batsh*t crazy. And yet Labyrinth has attained cult status, presumably because it's so darn watchable, no matter how many times you've seen it. It's just that weird kind of buffet movie that somehow allows you to go back for more, and for unexplained reasons.

It just doesn't get boring. Visually, there's so much going on that it takes at least 10 viewings to fully appreciate Jim Henson's dense world. And when you've got a world like this, padded out with awesome Bowie songs.... well, no wonder people are keen to revisit. Labyrinth also embraces an odd, dream-like tone throughout - as a result, it seems to beg your return - so that peculiar, ethereal feeling can wash over you once more.
