10 Movies That Became Unintentional Sequels

3. War, Inc. Is A Sequel To Grosse Pointe Blank

The Rock James Bond

Grosse Pointe Blank was great. War, Inc. was awful.

Both starring John Cusack, Joan Cusack and Dan Aykroyd (admittedly in a minor role in the second feature), both of these films can easily be viewed as existing in the same realm and sharing the same characters. Unfortunately for those who watched War, Inc., one thing that this pair of pictures doesn't share is the same level of quality.

In addition to playing an assassin in Grosse Pointe Blank and War, Inc., John Cusack also co-wrote the two films, and he himself explained to The Guardian how without even realising it, he ending up making War, Inc. as a "spiritual cousin" to George Armitage's 1997 movie.

The characters in these films don't share any names, but Cusack plays a high stakes assassin in both of them, with his sister Joan playing the assistant to John's Martin Q. Blank and Brand Hauser.

In Grosse Pointe Blank, Martin is a freelance assassin who rekindles love with an old flame at his high school reunion while battling a rival hitman. Where War, Inc. is concerned, Cusack's Brand is hired gun working in the world of global politics - which could conceivably have been a natural career patch for Martin Q. Blank.
