10 Movies That Became Unintentional Sequels
2. Dredd Is A Sequel To Gunpowder Milkshake
While we've yet to get a straight-up sequel to 2012's Dredd - although a Mega-City One TV series is still just about in development - audiences may have accidentally been served up a Dredd prequel picture earlier this year.
Hitting Netflix this past July, Gunpowder Milkshake stars Lena Headey and Karen Gillian as a mother and daughter pair of assassins in a world gone to the dogs. As crime runs rampant in this world, the only semblance of normalcy for our lead duo is getting to slurp milkshakes at the local diner. For Headey's Scarlet, she finds herself having to take down a criminal empire in order to rescue her offspring.
It doesn't take a huge amount of imagination to tie the events of Gunpowder Milkshake to those of Dredd. In Dredd, Headey plays the 'big bad' of the picture, Ma-Ma. In the landscape of that 2012 offering, Ma-Ma heads up her own evil empire, having killed her way to the top of said empire.
Taking creative license, could Ma-Ma have been a new persona taken on by Scarlet after her life of being an assassin caused something nefarious to happen to her daughter? It certainly makes for a fun way of thinking. Likewise, the sweet high of Ma-Ma's custom Slo-Mo drug would fit in line with the sugar rush obtained by those trusty milkshakes of yesteryear.
